The weather in Beijing is of the continental type, with a temperate spring, rainy summer, clear autumn, and a cold, snowy winter. The average temperature throughout the year is 12°C (53°F). The Best Time to Visit Beijing

Autumn (September to November) is considered the best time to visit Beijing as at this time it has very pleasant weather and fewer tourists.


Best places to see fall foliage in Beijing

• The Fragrant Hill

The Fragrant Hill features the most beautiful red maples in Beijing. When autumn arrives, the hill is covered by flaming maples leaves.

• Mutianyu Great Wall

Mutianyu Great Wall is magnificent with red-leafed maple trees in autumn.

Spring can be quite windy but again not as many tourists. The whole city wakes up with trees sprouting and flowers blooming. Beijing is an enchanting place to spend your spring when the flowers are in full bloom.


Best places to view flowers in Beijing

• Yuyuantan Park

The best place to see the cherry blossoms from late March to mid -April. Yuyuantan Park is home to 2,000 trees of 20 species and attracts many flower lovers as well as photographers.

• Dajue Temple

Magnolia is the symbol of Dajue temple. The magnolias at Dajue Temple are exceptionally large, bright, elegant and fragrant.

What to wear in Beijing

  • In Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November), jeans and a sweater are usually enough.
  • In Summer (June to August), T-shirts and light pants or shorts are the best bet.
  • In Winter (November to February), it is wise to dress in layers: long underwear and jeans, shirt, sweater and down jacket.
  • Rain gear is necessary, especially during the summer months.
