The China Millennium Monument

Taken a total of 42,000 sq meters, The China Millenium Monument stands between the Military Museum and the Central Television Complex near the Yuyuantan Park and the West Beijing Railway Terminus. The monument was designed as China’s commemorative symbol to welcome in 2000 and seen as a gift from the people to the world of the 21st century.

The Chinese traditional style, with a contemporary, modern and original flair suggests hopes for the future. It is a grand structure that combines Chinese culture with modern art and includes landscaping, sculpture, mural painting and other forms of art. It serves as a centre point for cultural and artistic exhibitions and is an inspiration for patriotism.

The China Millenium Monument is mainly composed of the Plaza of Holy Fire, Bronze Path, Main Altar, Century Bell and Culture Square. In its Art Hall, there are Circular Gallery of Carving of Chinese ancient scholars including the Century Hall, Oriental Art Gallery, Western Art Gallery, Modern Art Gallery and Media Digital Art Gallery. Into the southern entrance, you will discover the Plaza of Holy Fire. It is one meter deep below ground and 960 sq meters in area. It has taken on this shape to represent the 9,600,000 sq kilometres that is China and is in the very centre of the monument. The ground appears to rise depicting the rise of the Chinese nation. The 45 centimetre flames are fed on natural gas and are ever burning. Along the east and west steps at the side of the plaza, there is a steady stream of water running down the steps, dedicated to the Yangtze River and the Yellow River.
