Former Residence of Guo Moruo

Guo Moruo MuseumGuo Moruo was a famous modern Chinese writer, poet, and historian. One of his most famous works is Goddess. He held many high ranking positions in China's academic institutions in his life.

His former residence is located in a traditional courtyard on the western side of Shichahai. He moved into this courtyard at in November 1963, and remained there until his death in June 12th 1978. The courtyard was designated as a cultural relic in 1982 and opened to the public as a museum in 1988. The museum displays the life of Guo Moruo. You can visit his sitting room, office and bedroom. Outside are the peony and ginkgo that he planted with his wife.
