Skiing adventures in and around Beijing make for the perfect winter getaway that's certain to please skiers of all ages and skill levels. With over 10 resorts and ski hills in the surrounding area, there is bound to be something for everyone.

While the skiing season can vary from resort to resort, most are up and running in late November or early December and stay open until the first few weeks of March. Most resorts have full rental facilities, with the highest quality equipment, as well as options for overnight housing.

Badaling Ski Resort

Badaling Ski ResortWhen most people think of Badaling, images of the Great Wall of China come to mind. The most visited section of iconic fortification was built during the Ming Dynasty and served as an important military outpost because of its high ground. But did you realize that this elevation also makes the surrounding area perfect for skiing? Badaling Town, in Yanqing County, is around 2 hours outside of Beijing and is home to one of the most beautiful ski resorts in China - Badaling Ski Resort. Just over 2 kilometers away from The Great Wall, the resort boasts an area of around 3 million square meters, consisting of thousands of meters of skiing terrain suitable for all levels, as well as a 2,300 meter snow roadway for specially built for motorcycles and snowmobiles.

Huaibei Ski Resort

Huaibei Ski ResortHuaibei Ski Resort is also a favorite spot and is said to be the largest ski resort in Beijing. It features more than 30,000 square meters of downhill ski trails of advanced, intermediate and beginner runs. Advanced snowmaking machines ensure quality snow, no matter what the season's weather brings. Even without skiing or snowboarding, the resort has plenty of activities other than sport that you can enjoy. The area features horse drawn sledding, snowmobile excursions, and ropeways.

Jundushan Ski Resort

Jundushan Ski ResortLocated just 30 minutes from downtown Beijing is the Jundushan Ski Resort. It is a one double-chair hill that boasts a long, advanced trail, as well as two intermediate trails, perfect for beginner skiers. Covering over 150,000 square meters and equipped to hold 6,000 people a day comfortably, it is one of China's largest ski resorts. And with 20 different kinds of difficulty grade built into two long runs, skiers can show off any and every skill they want. It's located just north of the Xiaotangshan Hot Spring, in the Changping District, which would make for great apres ski relaxation.

Nanshan Ski Resort

Nanshan Ski ResortOnly about 60 kilometers south of Beijing, the Nanshan Ski Village is another option for wintertime fun, especially for those skilled skiers. The resort is the largest of its kind, specializing in advanced facilities. Expert skiers will enjoy and be challenged by the Mogul Trail, while snowboarders can show off their tricks and jumps in the Austrian designed Mellow Park. But first time skiers will also enjoy learning on the varied terrain. It is an excellent choice for children as well, as the Village offers more than 70 qualified ski and snowboard instructors. And everyone is sure to enjoy the toboggan run, imported from Germany, and the cable hang-glider. The resort offers many restaurants and hot snack bars, perfect for warming up after a day on the slopes.

Yunfoshan Ski Resort

Yunfoshan Ski ResortThe Yunfoshan Ski Resort is located in Miyun District, a suburb of Beijing, and is a fun getaway filled with adventures for all ages and skiing levels. It consists of 10 trails, with two expert run, and many slopes for the intermediate skiers to be entertained and the beginners to learn in a safe and comfortable environment. Lianhuashan Ski Resort

Lianhuashan Ski ResortLianhuashan Ski Resort is located in Zhang town, about 30 kilometers from the Capital Airport and was opened in December 2003. It is a large and inexpensive ski park and is often chosen for its conveniently close location to the city. Not only does the area offer beginner, intermediate and advanced trails, but also other entertainment options such as snowmobile terrains, dog sledding, football (soccer) snow field and horse racing in the snow.

Shijinglong Ski Resort

Shijinglong Ski ResortShijinglong Ski Resort in Yanqing County, built in 1999, was the first ski resort in Beijing and remains a favorite today. All three levels of skiers will find challenging and fun trails and snowboarders can show off their moves on the newly added Snowboard Paradise park. If you want to try something other than skiing, ice skating, curling and snowmobiling are also featured activities in Shijinglong. Imported snowmaking machines made it the first resort in China to use artificial snow and to this day they keep up the high quality of all the runs and snow trails. In 2002, open-air spring baths were constructed to emulate internationally well-known resorts. The hot springs are a perfect way to unwind your muscles and your mind after a long day of skiing.
