Illustration of Exchange Rate Difference

Suppose the original travel cost is: RMB830 (equals to US$100), CHT will quote you US$100 according to the present exchange rate in China (suppose the rate is:. US$1=RMB8.3).

CHT will ask their bank to charge RMB830 from clients’ credit card. When the bank of clients receive the charge of RMB830, clients’ bank will have to buy RMB830 for clients according to the local exchange rate which could be lower or high than 8.3. If the exchange rate is lower than 8.3, clients will have to spend more than US$100 for RMB830. If the exchange rate is higher than 8.3, clients don’t have to spend US$100 for RMB830. That is why clients may find the charges may differ from what have been quoted by CHT.
